Is Reiki a scam?

Is Reiki a scam.

Like many people there was a time when I thought is Reiki a scam.

Reiki was a word I had heard many times and had thought nothing much about, it was all part of some “new age” stuff which at the time was not a good fit with where I was in life.

Yes I was tired all the time, distracted and full of aches and pains but I was “alright”. I knew I was because I kept telling myself “your alright…you’re doing fine”.

I wasn’t though..I was far from alright, I was feeling more and more anxious and disturbed and rarely managed to sleep more than a couple of hours without waking up.

Eventually my Sister asked me if I would like her to perform a Reiki treatment on me.
Of course I didn’t want her to perform anything on me…it all sounded weird and NOT for me, but I was

in need of something and it was easier to say “ok” than it was to put up a polite but convincing argument.

So that was that my fate was sealed the following evening I was to go to her home for tea and get my Reiki treatment, I didn’t know what to expect and when I arrived, everything was “normal” just like it was any other day.

We had our tea and She asked if I was ready , I took a deep breath and said “Yeah” then followed her into her spare bedroom.

The only thing different to this room that I had stayed in many times was the addition of a foldaway massage table. I was instructed to lie down and relax, as I did she put some gentle music on and I closed my eyes.
Slowly I started to relax and mentioned that I had a pain in my neck which had been giving me a lot of pain over the past 8 or 9 months and had been diagnosed as Spondyliti.

She said “ok” and carried on as I lay there with my eyes closed I noticed some beautiful colours appear behind my eyes and there was a lovely warm relaxing feeling came over me.
Although it was very nice it was not what I was expecting and it certainly didn’t feel like anything had happened. After some time about 30 minutes or so my sister said all done…how do you feel? I feel good I replied relaxed, quite content and at peace.

We went back to the kitchen to have a cup of tea and I then realized my neck…it isn’t hurting. I thought it could be just that I’m relaxed and tomorrow it will be back to normal, but it hasn’t come back unless I am doing something very physical which puts a lot of pressure on my neck and that was 11 years ago and counting.

So for me Reiki is a very real form of energy healing, its name is Japanese made up of two words,Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”, So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy”.
There are many words for the energy we work with… Ki, Chi or Qi, Prana and Melam Holy Spirit to name but a few.
They are sometimes referred to in the West as vibes and we all feel like this is something we can understand.

The objective of Reiki is for the practitioner to channel the energy through the person or animal that is in need of treatment, this helps in clearing any blockages either emotional, physical or spiritual thus allowing the body to return to it’s natural state of balance.

Reiki is no longer confined to the “new age movement” it is firmly established in main stream culture and none more high profile than the N.H.S.
In many hospitals Reiki is now being recognized as having genuine benefits to patients suffering with stress and mood disorders and many long term heath issues.
